While the word “facility” is not always inaccurate, as many communities offer facilities for a variety of services and amenities, people do not live in facilities. We live in homes. We live in communities. To call them anything less would reduce the value of the opportunities awaiting new residents and their families. To call them facilities ignores the individuals sharing their daily lives with one another, caring for and supporting their friends and neighbors through the good days and the not-so-good days.

Moving to a new home is one of the most stressful events in a person’s life, and when that move is brought about by circumstances outside our control, it can create a sense of loss for our autonomy, and for ourselves.
