Is your CMO housebroken?

At G5, he has to be if he wants to come to work. Ryno, my 5lb Maltese, considers himself G5’s CMO. That’s short for Chief Morale Officer. Like all dogs at G5, Ryno’s task is large and not to be taken lightly: improve employee morale. Not just for me but for all G5ers.

Dogs in the work place are not a new phenomenon. Company Culture trend-setters like Google and Autodesk have been pro puppy for over a decade now. Research confirms these trend setters were on the right track. Dog friendly office environments not only decrease stress level, they also foster employee collaboration and trust.

Back to the CMO. Having my dog at work makes even the worst day at G5 better than my corporate days in San Francisco’s Financial District. I have a reason to get up from my desk and take a walk outside, a reason to say hello to other co-workers who want to pet the little fella and an empathetic partner to remind me when times are rough, we have beef jerky at home.

Speaking of home, having Ryno by my side eliminates the stresses over shoe-chewing, bird chasing and other destructive activities my dog enjoys when left at home from eight to five. It may sound slight, but knowing my favorite boots are safe from Ryno’s jaws reduces my stress level at the office and improves my productivity—which is great for everyone.

G5 is one of the estimated 20% of employers in the United States who provide dog-friendly work places. With a helpful set of K-9 in-office best practices called “For the Love of Dogs”, G5 provides a dog friendly culture allowing all employees to enjoy the perks of pups at work without much nuisance.

In June, we celebrated National Take Your Dog to Work Day at the office, complete with homemade doggie treats, complementary in-house pet exams and a group walk. In April, G5 was featured in the Inc. magazine article Man’s Best Co-Worker and was a recipient of Inc’s Top Small Company Workplaces award.

Now if I could only teach my CMO how to fetch a beer from the G5 keg at 5pm. If you appreciate a dog friendly work environment as much as I do, you are in luck because G5 is hiring. For information about current openings, click here.
